Just as school started there would be a flutter of butterflies in one of the buildings on our street.Yellow ones mostly that gathered to enjoy the nectar from a row of flowers, tiny yellow ones that lined the street. I'd catch them whenever I could and put them in a tiny box and take them to school. I'd release them in the hall during prayer time... They provided a very entertaining and necessary distraction during the compulsory prayer time...
Now I walk down my street and the butterflies are gone! and so are the children who caught them. We have grown up now and aren't fast enough to do so anymore.. but where are the next generation of butterflies and where are the children of today ?
It's been ages since I saw kids play cricket on the streets... games like "lagori", "dabba udali", "ice price", are gonne .. disappeared where are they ?
Is this the future?
Where are my butterflies ?
